Rise in compensation for sperm donors

Three main motives for donating sperm, as previously discussed, are money, generosity and the desire to pass along your DNA.

Up until recently, the UK could only compensate its donors for reasonable expenses up to £35. But for the first time in a decade, the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) have recommended to raise the compensation given.

The updated rates have been suggested considering inflation since they were first set in 2011. Sperm donors can now take home an extra £10 per clinic visit. The increase may seem small, but the HFEA intended to strike a balance between donors feeling valued and not wanting to remove the altruistic motivations behind donating.
